Suffice to say it was like an LSD overdose in a Vaudeville Music Hall. As a seasonal Special it was an absolute romp of gigantic proportions. The costumes were fabulous and Martin Freeman gets to sport another tremendous moustache and Sherlock's checked suit and Deerstalker combo made my little heart sing...which was worth the license fee alone.
Other series regulars have an absolute ball in their Victorian characters, my personal favourite was Molly whose gender bender turn was an absolute treat, but Lestrade and Mycroft are also mesmerising in their parts with hilarious results.
Fans expected a stand alone piece with a story set in the real Sherlock Era, they got an awful lot more and if you were still suffering from a heavy New Year over indulgence, I would suggest that you might have sat scratching your head somewhat at points.
Moriarty our favourite psychopath is in residence so all is well with the world.
Moffat may have gone too far even for him... But his exuberance made for a very entertaining hour and a half!
